So . . .

We're currently in the midst of ripping our house apart. While I was at Disney World, Josh was a busy guy!  The ugly paneling has FINALLY come down, and the sparkly ceilings have been scraped off!!  YAY!  But now we've got the task of sanding and scraping the old glue off the walls and using plaster to make the walls smooth. Oh joy.

But here's where I'm stumped: I have NO IDEAS for how to decorate the living room. I've got plenty of ideas for the baby's room. But nothing for our front room. Our living room and dining room are one open space. Oh and my "office" area is in this room too. We REALLY want to rip up the carpet and put in wood floors (laminate is fine with us). But we're not sure we have the money to do that yet. So for now the carpet stays I guess.

Do you have any favorite sites, or blogs that have great decorating and/or organizational ideas? I really would like to start envisioning what it could look like and picking a paint color.  From the ideas I've looked at so far, I'm leaning toward white walls.  Is that too boring??

We don't want to buy new furniture so whatever we do needs to work with our current dark brown leather sofa, white desk and white wooden IKEA entertainment center thingy.  We will be in the market, eventually, for a new dining room table and chairs.

Any ideas, links, etc would be greatly appreciated!

  1. Hands down, the best DIY site is

Start by clicking on house tour, then jump over to the projects tab.

    LOVE this site!!!

  2. I love browsing the Pottery Barn catalogs. We also have a brown leather sofa and white entertainment center and have painted our walls Sherwin Williams 6101 (Sands of Time) with accent walls in 6102 Portabello. I like it because it's neutral but not white and I can change pillows and other accents to give the room a different feel when I get bored. Good Luck!

  3. HGTV is a great place to get ideas. You can watch home shows or browse through their website as well. I am an HGTV-aholic, as well as a fellow Disney fanatic!
By the way, check with your doctor about the sanding of glue before you do it. You can never be too careful when you are pregnant! Good Luck!

  4. I love to stalk this one:

Great family stories, but I LIVE for the posts when she shares a picture of her house. Yummy!!

  5. These two are my favorites for decorating ideas...
Good luck, I can't wait to see the progress!!

  6. Pottery Barn! And then I look on the web to find the same details somewhere cheaper ;)

  7. Sounds like someone is nesting already! LOL! These are my two favorite blogs for home ideas: and

They both have lots of tutorials for how to make upgrades to your home that look expensive, but really aren't. We just recently redid our master bathroom with some of the ideas from them. LOVE their style! :)

  8. young house love

    those are my faves!!

  10. I love this site:

    Greetings from Germany,

  11. We recently gutted our kitchen and completely redid it. I found this site AFTER we had started, but I wish I had found it before. I wish I had found it before as its forums are a treasure-trove of information and will also introduce you to other nice sites. It is a gardening site, but there are forums for EVERYTHING home/decorating related. I think you would enjoy it.
